My current research involves applying machine learning techniques to automate X-ray crystallography electron density maps. I am working with Jude Shavlik and Frank DiMaio on this research. (See Frank DiMaio’s profile for more information and publications on the research to date.) The task specifically aims to build a flexible model of a protein given its sequence and topology. My role currently is to discover which features and algorithms best classify the amino acid at a given location on a map. My long germ goal in computational biology / bioinformatics is to develop algorithms to help uncover patterns in molecular data and provide efficient means of representing these data for biological research. My interests include discovering protein folding patterns and domain identifications, as well as gene predictions.
